Fine Letterpress

“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece” – John Ruskin

Here at Waldwick Printing, one of the things we strive for is authenticity. We strive for it in all aspects of business, including the work we produce. That is why we love letterpress. Not only does it bring us back to our own roots as a print shop, it brings us back to our roots as a country, and as a global society.

Pioneered by Johan Guttenberg in the 1400’s, letterpress is the genuine original, authentic way of printing. Religion was propagated, revolutions begun, the masses educated, all by means of letterpress printing for centuries.

Letterpress printing remained unchanged for hundreds of years until, driven by speed and profit, the world embraced a more lucrative means of printing. Where most of the shops around the world quickly adopted the new processes and carted their old equipment off to the scrap yard, Waldwick Printing maintained and cultivated their letterpress operations as well as embraced the new technology, knowing that the deeper our knowledge and greater our capabilities, the more valuable we would be to our clients.

We are thrilled with the recent renaissance of letterpress printing. Even though there are faster, easier, more affordable methods of printing, people will eventually gravitate back to authenticity, and we take a lot of satisfaction in that, because authenticity is what we hold dear.

Letterpress truly reveals its beauty when using sophisticated, supple and handmade papers. The finished product has the look and feel of true craftsmanship that sets it apart from the mass produced, high gloss, cheaply made offerings of today.

Clients often use letterpress for special occasions like births and weddings, but many take advantage of its beauty to gain a competitive edge in business as well as setting their advertising apart from the pack.
